CIC Fertilizers (Pvt) Ltd commenced business operations in January 1993 with the acquisition of Ceylon Tobacco Company’s Fertilizer business with the change in ownership, the new brand name CIC POHORA was successfully launched.

The rapid growth of sales led to the expansion of it’s blending facilities.

The company has progressed from a single blending plant to three plants incorporating advance technological developments. The streamlined blending operations in Kurunagala, Peliyagoda and Maho are supported by well-equipped laboratories with integrated quality control systems to ensure the uniformity and accuracy of blends. The blending plant in Kurunagla was the first in Srilanka to computerize it’s operations

The main distribution centres of CIC Fertilizers are strategically located from Kurunegala, Fertilizer is supplied to the plantation industry, Tea sector in the hill country and Coconut sector in the Western Province. Peliyagoda caters to the western, Eastern and Southern Provinces and Maho serves the Paddy sector in the Northern part of the country in Wayamba and Rajarata. These locations are supplemented by 24 sales centres to ensures the availability of the product throughout the island

CIC Fertilizers has achieved a sales growth of 500% since its incorporation and enjoys the Market leadership in the Fertilizer business in Srilanka. The company pioneered the use of computerized blending technology, the modern concept of Balanced plant nutrition, the introduction of Micro-Nutrient Fertilizers and products for fertigation

CIC Fertilizer functions as the holding company for the CIC Group’s investment in Agri Business. The company mad investment of over Ra: 150 Million in it’s subsidiary companies. These include CIC Seeds, a wholly owned company engaged in the production of seed Paddy as it’s core business and CIC Agri Biotech, a BOI approved company set up primarily for the production of elite planting material using the latest micro propagation techniques. In 1998 CIC Fertilizers was awarded the management of the largest Seed farm in Hingurakgoda on a long-term lease, under the governments privatization program. The company’s success in managing the Hingurakgoda farm resulted in the Government handing over a send seed farm in Pelwehera in February 2000.

This was the reflection of the confidence placed by the government in the company’s capability and commitment towards improving the productivity and profitability of the agriculture sector in Srilankas.
